MUSIC FOR THE STAGE
THE FORGOTTEN OF CONSTANTINOPLE
Wind Ensemble- Professional
The Ancient East meets West in this piece, premiered by the Middle Tennessee State University Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Reed Thomas. It is the first and ONLY piece for wind ensemble and Byzantine Chanters. Colors, power, and mystery are like incense to the heavens.
Ο ΆΓΓΕΛΟΣ- "O ANGELOS"
TCU Concerto Competition Winner
Percussion Concerto
While not a strictly programmatic piece, Sometimes, sound inspired meaning, and sometimes the meaning inspired the sound. I find each to be viable while composing. Ο Άγγελος (Oh Ahn-ge-los). Sometimes, sound inspired meaning, and sometimes the meaning inspired the sound. I find each to be viable while composing. This is in general, a musical representation of a guardian angel and his dutiful protection over a man. The first movement, Wings, starts with an unfurling of wings and progresses into full flight and activity. In the second movement, Pagan/Anesti, there is struggle and falling into the pagan dance that is both brutal and confused. This chasm is also further enforced by the open key and its tonality. It is only after the exhaustive pagan festival, that there is a call to the resurrection. The third movement Light, is a resurrected man on his return home.
CAPES AND HEREOS
Concert Band FUN with MainStage Electronics
Grade 2.5-3
A programmatic piece of epic This is a piece for the end of a middle school honor band concert. Nothing but fun, a little noise, and a lot of intensity to get the crowd to their feet!
With live pre-programmed MainStage electronics.
MEDITATIONS ON THE TWILIGHT OF STARS
ii. melody for hilary
This is one of my earliest works, commissioned for the MTSU dance department and Kim Nofsinger. This was a stand-alone piece, which eventually became a part of the larger work "Holding Patterns." This movement became the second movement of a percussion three-movement work Meditations on the Twilight of Stars.
CLANGING CYMBAL
Percussion Quartet- Grade 5
"If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal." Clanging Cymbals are awesome! This piece takes one single rhythm and moves, inverts, pushes, pulls, and undulates it through time. Once the second act rolls around, it's a RAUCOUS time, built from something simple.
